Troop Photo!

Friday, March 1

Next Friday we will be attending the Caring for our Community workshop at Old Farmer's.  We are getting the troop together ahead of time to pack up our beanie babies to send to Operation Gratitude and work on our pen pal project.  Please have the girls at Kelly's house, 355 Naughright Road, by 4:30 and we will have pizza and head over to the workshop together.

Schedule Updates

We were unable to register the troop for the Maple Sugaring event we had planned for this Saturday, 2/23.  :(

But please add the following two events to your calendars:

  • On March 1st, Troop 629 will be hosting “Caring for our Community” at the Old Farmers School gym, a fun workshop where girls will get the opportunity to help the Washington Township Food Pantry, Meals on Wheels and Children’s Specialized Hospital. The cost of the workshop is $7 per girl and includes a patch, a snack and a craft. Girls are also asked to bring a donation for the food pantry.
  • Troop 169 is hosting a Living Healthy Workshop on Friday, April 19, 2013 in the Kossmann Multipurpose Room. Come enjoy a “food-tastic” adventure! The cost of the workshop is $7 per girl and includes a snack and the patch. Girls are asked to bring a healthy canned food item to donate to the food pantry.

All About Us!

For our purple petals (Respect Myself and Others) we traced each of the girls on paper and had them decorate their outlines with markers and pictures that would tell a story about them.  After they were done, they shared with their friends and each learned a little bit about each other.  Here are some of their creations:

Valentine's Day Crafting at WTPL

Hayley McIsaac, a Cadette Scout from Troop 518, is running a craft/service project at the Library this Thursday (Valentine's Day) from 4:15 to 5pm.  All are welcome.

Make a Craft, Make a Change

When making a cool craft for yourself, why not make someone else's day as well?  Cadette scout Hayley McIsaac will show all interested 1st through 3rd graders how to create simple and beautiful tissue paper flowers - participants can take these home to display just about anywhere.  Everyone will also create artwork to brighten the lives of nursing home residents.

Sign up online through the Washington Twp. Public Library (open to everyone - not just scouts) at http://host7.evanced.info/wtpl/evanced/eventsignup.asp?ID=3798

Friday's Meeting

Well, it's looking like snow for Friday.  Lots and lots....and lots of snow.

We will keep you posted on the status of our 4 pm meeting, but obviously if you feel that it's unsafe to travel then it's best if you stay home where it is toasty warm and you can drink hot cocoa and watch movies all snuggled under the covers with your families!

Maybe we'll have to plan a troop sledding outing for the weekend instead of meeting on Friday....any ideas for a good hill?

Our plans for the rest of the year

Hello troop!

So far we have earned the following petals:
  • Purple for Respect Myself and Others
  • Yellow for Friendly and Helpful
  • Spring Green for Considerate and Caring
  • Green for Use Resources Wisely
  • Orange for Responsible for What I Say and Do
  • Light Blue for Honest and Fair
That only leaves Magenta, Red and Violet - and of course we will continue to work on all these other qualities during our remaining meetings.

As for the Friday afternoon meetings, the rest of the schedule looks like this for the next few months:

  • 2/8 at Kelly's House, 355 Naughright Road, at 4:00 pm to pack up beanies
  • 2/22 location TBD
  • 3/8 at the Washington Township Public Library at 3:30 pm
  • 3/15 location TBD
  • 4/12 location TBD
  • 4/26 location TBD (we are looking to do a movie night so if someone would like to volunteer her home, let Cassie or Kelly know)
As we discussed last night, the increased security at the schools have made it a less attractive meeting place for the troop, but moving it to another location would affect our members who do after-care.  We are going to work through the options and let you know what we come up with!

In addition to these regular meetings, we would like to do the following special events with the girls:
Please let Kelly know your Daisy's availability for these two activities.

We'd love to do a camping trip, a hike, and other fun activities - they enjoy each other's company so much, the more we can do as a troop, the better!  Let us know if you have ideas or would like to host a special event at your home!

Pizza Party Pictures

On Friday, February 1, 2013 we had a pizza party at Allyson's house where we made our own pizzas and read No, David and David Gets in Trouble by David Shannon.  A great time was had by all, and thanks to Allyson's mom for opening up their home to our girls and their mess!
